Black & White was created in 1884 by James Buchanan. It was originally named Buchanan Blend and was marketed in a black bottle with a white label. Customers simply started referring to it as that black and white Whiskey. Buchanan – an animal lover – added the black Scottish terrier and the West Highland white terrier to the label and it was then adopted as the brands motif which is still used today and is one of the worlds most famous trademarks.
