Del Maguey Espadin Especial is a rare limited production expression made from Espadin — the genetic mother of Blue Weber agave — by the same maestro palenquero responsible for Del Maguey’s Tobala, and produced in extremely limited quantities after fifteen years of the producer asking Del Maguey founder Ron Cooper to import his Espadin mezcal, finally resulting in a first run of only 330 bottles.
Espadin Especial is made by the same producer as Del Maguey’s Tobala — a master of rare agave mezcal whose Espadin, distilled with the same deliberate care and traditional methods, produces a distinctly different character from the more widely available Vida or Chichicapa: floral and delicate with vanilla, citrus, and tropical pineapple rather than the earthier, smokier profile of valley Espadin expressions. The saline quality on the finish — leaving the palate salivating — is the signature of this particular producer’s Espadin work and makes it one of the most distinctive and sought-after expressions in the Del Maguey lineup.
