Del Maguey San Luis Del Rio is the original village series expression from the remote mountain village of San Luis Del Rio — a three-hour dirt road journey south of Oaxaca into the Sierra Sur mountains, where Paciano Cruz Nolasco and his family have made mezcal in the traditional Oaxacan way for generations, producing one of the most complex and distinctive Espadin expressions in the Del Maguey portfolio.
San Luis Del Rio sits in a narrow hot valley in the Sierra Sur where the Rio Hormiga Colorada flows through steep slopes full of wild Espadin agave. The remote location and traditional production — earth pit roasting over hot rocks, ambient fermentation with wild microbes, copper pot still distillation — produce a mezcal with a tropical fruit brightness and distinctive cigar smoke finish that reflects the specific microclimate and water of the village. This is the village where Vida was also produced, making San Luis Del Rio the foundational Del Maguey terroir — the flagship village expression offers a deeper, more complex view of what Vida’s base spirit can achieve at full production intention.
