Segura Viudas Brut Reserva is a Cava DO sparkling wine produced at Segura Viudas’ estate in the Penedès region of Catalonia, Spain — using the traditional Méthode Champenoise with secondary fermentation in bottle. The Brut Reserva is the flagship expression, blending Macabeo, Parellada, and Xarello — the classic Cava grape triumvirate — with a portion of Chardonnay.
Cava is produced using the same in-bottle secondary fermentation as Champagne — distinct from the Charmat tank method used for Prosecco — which produces the fine, persistent bubbles and bready complexity associated with the traditional method. Segura Viudas has been producing Cava since the 1950s from their estate vineyards in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, the heart of Spain’s Cava production region.
